Resumo:
Spasalus Kaup, 1869 was described to Brazil and two species was included in it. The genus was synonymized in Paxillus by Gravely and reestablished by Reyes-Castillo. Spasalus is diagnosed by the prosternal process rhomboidal, a marginal groove in ventral face of femur I, five segments on antennal club, one-tooth lacinia, marginal punctuations on pronotum reaching almost 2/3 of the width and inner tubercles generally very developed. Until the last work evolving the genus, this had twelve species. We analyzed twelve types of Spasalus (8 holotypes, 1 neotype, 1 syntype, 1 paratype, 1 lectotype) and a supposed lectotype of Passalus robustus Percheron, 1835 in the work. Currently the genus has eleven species including two new species, one from Roraima (Spasalus roraimensis n. sp.) and other from Rio Grande do Sul (Spasalus ciceroi n. sp.) and a revaluated species (Spasalus abnormalis n. stat.). Four species was moved, one to Paxillus (Paxillus kaupi n. comb.) and three Passipassalus (Passipassalus seag n. comb., Passipassalus bechynei n. comb. and Passipassalus urubuensis n. comb.). Spasalus silvarum was not revised because we did not have access to syntype. The review turned possible a diagnosis to genus and equalized all descriptions.
