Resumo:
Water beetles are the main group of freshwater arthropods, both, by the number of species as by its importance, since they participate in the aquatic chains and food webs. One of the most abundant and rich families of aquatic Coleoptera is Hydrophilidae, with approximately 2,840 described species distributed in 174 genera and 5 subfamilies, distributed worldwide. Despite the great diversity and richness of the group, their knowledge is still limited, mainly due to the lack of specialists and the availability of tools that aim at the identification of the species. The present study aimed to characterize the genera of Hydrophilidae found in the study area, to describe the new species, to redescribe species with description short and brief, to make identification key for genera and species and to provide information on the geographic distribution of the species. The samples were performed in June and August of 2015 in 26 lakes of the Roraima savanna. It were collected 1863 adults belongs to five subfamilies, five tribes, ten genera and 35 species, of which seven are new to science: Berosus apiciflatus sp. nov.; Berosus atratus sp. nov.; Berosus cordatus sp. nov.; Berosus aurifer sp. nov.; Berosus clarksoni sp. nov.; Crenitulus savanna sp. nov. and Derallus roraimenses sp. nov. Of the species found in the present study nine are new records for Brazil (Berosus castaneus Oliva & Short, 2012; Berosus llanensis Oliva & Short, 2012; Berosus megaphallus Oliva & Short, 2012; Berosus olivae Queney, 2006; Berosus repertus Oliva & Short, 2012; Paracymus sedatus Wooldridge, 1973; Hydrophilus simulator Bedel, 1891; Tropisternus apicipalpis Fabricius, 1775; Tropisternus laevis Sturm, 1826) and all species are new records for Roraima State. An identification key is provided for the genera and species registered for the study area, based on both, external morphological characters and on characteristics of the male genitalia. In addition, diagnoses and comments were included, as well as maps with geographical records for each species.
