Resumo:
This work relates the occurrence of lightning and precipitation in the Central Amazon , more specifically around the city of Manaus, from December 2008 to November 2011 in a square area with 16 km radius centered at a meteorological station located geographically 2º 36 '32'' S lat and 60 º 12' 33'' W long. The rainfall data were provided by the rain gauge located at the station mentioned above, managed by the Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA). The ligtning data are the responsibility of STARNET a lightning detection network operated by the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences, State University of São Paulo (IAG-USP), chosen to have a wide global coverage. The choice of the size of the area is due to the error location STARNET be on average eight (8) kilometers. As the chosen area is twice that size, so we have a better efficiency in the results obtained from processing the data of atmospheric electrical discharges (lightning). A regression analysis between variables rays and rainfall at different time scales was performed. Among these analyzes are detailed rainy and less rainy periods, where it was found that the coefficients of correlation and determination are significantly higher for periods of reduced rainfall incidence, compared to periods with more rain, indicating, in this situation, the existence of a relationship more direct between the detected rays and rain measured in the study area in question. Extreme cases were analyzed statistically using scatter plots.
