Costs and adequateness of degraded areas restoration techniques are determinant to the viability of environmental reclamation. Two different land restoration techniques were studied in this research project: Nucleation and Seedling Planting. Costs were calculated for the application of each technique, what resulted in this work, divided in two topics. The first topics concerns with Nucleation techniques, so to calculate its implementation costs in sites open by oil exploration in the Operation Base Geólogo Pedro de Moura BOGPM, Coari-AM. Data collection was carried out in December 2007 in the gaps identified as LUC 15, JAz 104 and JAZ 94. The second topics concerns with the implementation costs of seedling planting technique in the JAZ 64 gap at BOGPM. For each studied technique in the two topics, each activity's execution time, work force used and supplies were recorded. Collected and tabulated data were made fit to Activity Based Costing (ABC). Economical parameters analyzed to cost composition were direct and indirect work force, direct and indirect supplies,
Depreciation and Permanence Costs - CP at BOGPM. Reference values for social benefits, labor and tax charges were added on the outsourced company's work force working at BOGPM. CP costs were R$ 10,12/h. Per hectare costs for Nucleation varied from R$ 7.464,78 at LUC 15 to R$ 16.938,42 at JAZ 104 gaps. Topsoil was nucleation's most expensive technique, but also the one that showed more seedling number increase in the gaps. Seedling planting per hectare costs was valued at R$ 38.531,93. Only fertilizer and seedling cost share was 46,56% of total costs. Direct Supplies was identified as the costliest economical variable in seedling planting implementation. Within the two studied restorations techniques in this exploratory research, the most resources consuming technique was mowing. This result demonstrates how costly can be the maintenance of the techniques in restored and unrestored gaps at the BOGPM. For further projects it is suggested that this studied should be used as a reference for restoration techniques cost calculation. Mixing the techniques, as opposed as using only one of them in the degraded gaps, is also pointed out as a means to obtain a better return from the investments in the restored site. |
