At the Congress of Washington, which took place in 1989, measures were established that should be followed by the states to adjust to neoliberalism, without which they wouldn’t obtain new financing from agencies and international financing organizations. This article aims to reflect on the neoliberal influence in the energetic matrix present in great hydroelectric enterprises that impact the state of Tocantins. We’ve considered the hydroelectric power plants of Luís Eduardo Magalhães (Lajeado), Peixe/Angical, São Salvador, and Estreito. The methodology used took into account bibliographic references concerning the theme, as well as documented data, mainly reports about the environmental impacts of the analyzed endeavors. The hydroelectric enterprises analyzed had a great share of private capital, as national as international, in the formation of their trusts. There weren’t great hydroelectric power plants in Tocantins state until the construction of the ones analyzed in this research, therefore there wasn’t privatization of this kind of endeavor. O neoliberalismo surge em oposição às teorias que defendiam o Estado intervencionista e de Bem-estar. No Congresso de Washington, realizado no ano 1989, se estabeleceram medidas que deveriam ser seguidas pelos Estados para se adequarem ao neoliberalismo, sem as quais os mesmos não obteriam novos financiamentos de agências e organismos de financiamentos internacionais. Este artigo busca fazer uma reflexão sobre a influência neoliberal na matriz energética assentada em grandes empreendimentos hidrelétricos que impactam o estado do Tocantins. Foram consideradas as usinas hidrelétricas Luís Eduardo Magalhães (Lajeado), Peixe/Angical, São Salvador e Estreito. A metodologia utilizada levou em consideração referências bibliográfica sobre o tema, bem como se utilizou de dados documentais, principalmente dos relatórios de impactos ambientais dos empreendimentos em análise. Os empreendimentos hidrelétricos analisados tiveram grande participação de capital privado, tanto nacional como internacional, na formação de seus consórcios. Não havia grandes usinas hidrelétricas em território tocantinense até a construção das aqui analisadas, por isso não houve privatização desse tipo de empreendimento.
