Thisresearchaimedtounderstandthestrategiesofstruggle for
landandpeasantresistanceagainstlandtenurein thenorthgeographicmicroregion Araguaia,
northeastregionofthestateof Mato Grosso, contextualizedby its
unequalandcontradictorycharactertothedevelopmentofcapitalism in thatterritory. Therefore, it
waspossibletoemphasizethe fundamental role ofthePrelatureof Saint Felix of Araguaia, as well
as of its pastoral agentsandespeciallyofthebishop D. Pedro Casaldáligathatsincetheendofthe
1960s, undertheguidanceofLiberationTheology,
theyplacedthemselvesagainsttheconcentrationofland,
theexpulsionoftraditionalpeoplesandpeasantfamilies, thedirectandindirectexploitationofthe
labor force promotedbythecapitalistmodeofproduction. The analyzesoftheempirical data
extractedfrom interviews andsemi-structuredquestionnaireswiththepeasantsofthe Dom Pedro
settlementprojectconsistedofanattempttorevealthealternativesfoundbythese social subjects,
topromotecontinuityand material and cultural reproduction in
theplacewheretheyhavealwaysbeen, or it is, in thelandof labor,
antagonistictothelandofexploitation. In
thiscontextwetheoreticallysubsidizeintellectualsofagrarianissuessuch as Chayanov, Shanin,
Martins, Oliveira, Ianni, Porto Gonçalves, whooncediscussedtheexistenceand (r)
existenceofnoncapitalistrelationsofproductionresultingfromthecontradictorycharacterofcapitali
stexpansion in thecountryside. Therefore, thepeasanttriad: land,
familyandworkrevealedanindissociablecondition for theunderstandingofthemaintenanceandcontinuityofthepeasantwayoflife in PA Dom Pedro.
