Universidade Federal do Tocantins - UFT Student Assistance Policy aims to improvement of quality of life and academic performance of the students assisted by PNAES, identifying the causes that can lead them for academic failure and possible avoidance. The present study had as general objective to evaluate the student‘s assistance actions related to the implementation of the Campus Gurupi Permanent Assistance Program, highlighting the relationship between this policy and the student's academic performance in a vulnerable condition and impact of permission of these policies on the trajectory of the student, based on the following question: Considering the studant assistance policies implemented by UFT, is there an effective relationship between granting scholarship permanence and the academic performance of the vulnerable student at Campus Gurupi? Specific objectives were proposed to identify the students benefiting from the scholarship permanence, in the Campus of Gurupi; to verify the scholarship process in relation to the socioeconomic profile of the students benefited, when examining how the monitoring and the reach of the students who really need this policy are carried out; and evaluate the relationships between granting scholarship permanence and the academic performance of beneficiaries Regarding the methodology, the research was developed in a qualitative-quantitative approach. The data collection was done through a questionnaire applied to the scholarship students, a script of interviews destined to the SASP, sector responsible for the actions of student assistance, developed by UFT / Gurupi, besides data collection in the academic system of the institution, referring scholarships and academic performance. The qualitative analysis, through the thematic content analysis, used documentary data and database information to analyze the socioeconomic profile of the students, while the quantitative analysis was performed through descriptive statistics, involving the elaboration of graph and tables commented individually. The results show that student assistance constitutes a fundamental support for the permanence of students with socioeconomic vulnerabilities and indicates that the Permanence scholarship reaches some of the purposes for which it was created, considering the majority of the scholars who participated in the research, since the program has a direct impact on their permanence in the institution. The Proest has implemented effective strategies to reduce the difficulties faced by beneficiaries so that they succeed in academic performance, there is an improvement in the academic coefficient after the receipt of assistance, but it is still below expectations. Although they need to be expanded and improved as a public policy, programs of this nature are extremely important for the permanence of students with low socioeconomic status in universities, so that access and permanence policies effectively contribute to integral education of vulnerable students. Although it favors, there is no guarantee that students will stay on campus only through scholarships and financial aid granted. At the end of the study, recommendations were presented in a Diagnosis on student assistance, with the purpose of contributing to the improvement of the Permanency Grant developed by UFT. |
