This dissertation consists in an analysis of the journalistic coverage of fiscal policies
of exemption of the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI), between July 2008 and June 2010, as a
response to the world economic crisis. The analysis occurred by means of observing the four main
printed newspapers in Brazil and their economic editorials: Folha de São Paulo, O Estado de São
Paulo, O Globo and Valor Econômico. The objective of this study was to verify if the Brazilian
printed newspapers, subjects of this research, reflected in their categorized content, framework and
voices the homogeneity of the analyses, if the scientific production and the production of
journalistic articles reflected the silence of the field of economics with regards to the adopted
policy, if the newspapers acted as prescriptive and inductive agents in the economy collaborating
towards the performativity of the exemption policy of the IPI. The research also utilized the optics
of three different methodologies: analysis of content, framework and voices. For theoretical
contextualization, we discussed the field of symbolic production, the field of journalists and of
economists and the performativity in the economy. In the area of economic journalism, we
approached historical aspects of the formation of the specialty in Brazil. In the area of economics,
we aimed to present the contextualization of the world economic crisis and the measures adopted by
the Brazilian government in response to the crisis. During the development of the work, we
observed less homogeneity between the newspapers for the analysis of categorical content,
framework and voices; that the manifestation of the field of economists existed, however,
quantitatively small for scientific production, as well as silence for the production of articles and
that it was possible to verify the prescriptive and inductive effect on the economy, thus
collaborating towards the performativity in the economy of the fiscal policies of exemption of the
IPI and also, that the work does not show the field of economists and economic journalism
financed, as well as shows the strong incorporation of agents of the journalistic field in economic
editorials. |
