The scenario of the post-Cold War international system promoted a moment of
reordering of the international conformation, giving rise to the growth of emerging
countries international projection. In this context, is evinced the Brazilian initiative in the quest for greater international projection, aiming a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. Brazil draws on international cooperation and institutions, applying the context of UN peace operations as a strategy to reach the pragmatic objectives of the Brazilian Foreign Policy. The Brazilian military sector is important in the country's efforts, being used as the main factor within the Brazilian role in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), strategically securing, together with economic power, the Brazilian leadership in South America. The objective of this work is to identify the profile and the dimension of the international leadership exercised by Brazil from 2003 to 2010, seeking to point out the country's military sector employment in this leadership. Through the research it is possible to consider the profile of the international leadership exercised by Brazil in the portrayed period as emerging and promising, ascending to the condition of the relevant country in the international environment, but not being inserted among the greatest military and economic powers of the planet. The dimension of Brazil's international leadership from 2003 to 2010 is evaluated as an intermediary, having moderate influence in many parts of the world, but not being able to be decisive in the policies of the influenced states. The Brazilian military sector was applied in this conjuncture in a peaceful and cooperative way, in order to increase the integration between Brazil and the United Nations, in the unfinished attempt to obtain a permanent seat in the Security Council. The analysis is based on the Offensive Realism theory. |
