The present work seeks to understand how the nuclear issue between the United States of America and Democratic People's Republic of Korea influence international security, under the Neorealist interpretation of the International Relations’ field. Emphasizing the key role of nuclear deterrence and how it helped the North Korean state to have a more effective participation in the international system. For this, it is a descriptive work, with documentary sources, in the modality of bibliographical research and possessing data of qualitative nature. The organization of this presente work occurs first, in a theoretical chapter, which discusses the Realist and Neorealist ideas. Second, a descriptive exploration of nuclear technology and the actions of States in this regard. The final chapter deals with a deeper analysis of the issues of history between the two countries, the reasons for investing in a nuclear program and a Neorealist study of the agreement reached between the rulers in 2018. This study aims to make a critical analysis of the agreement, explain the power to influence, on the part of both North Korea and United States. Seeking to understand the interests behind the state’s actions, analyzing the causes and consequences of the successful deterrence strategy.
