The physical capabilities of the individual will influence to have a greater chance of aging with better quality of life. Objective: to describe the practice of physical activity and fitness related to health of students of the sixth and ninth grade of elementary school and the first and third year of high school in the city of Tocantinópolis/TO. Methods: It is characterized as a descriptive, cross-sectional and school-based quantitative study. The sample was recruited by a single-stage conglomerate, composed of 6th and 9th grade students, and the 1st and 3rd year of high school in a public school in Tocantinópolis/TO. The instrument used was a questionnaire structured with sociodemographic questions, physical activity practice and time in sedentary behaviors. The following measures were performed: body mass and height for calculating body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). The tests were applied in an environment with predetermined times and dates with the direction of the school. Data were tabulated in Microsoft Excel (2007) and analyzed from Stata 13.0, using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis between physical activity time per day and waist circumference. Results: According to the results, the sample comprised 69 male adolescents (47.8%) and female adolescents (52.2%), who practiced 278.56 ± 78.2 minutes / day of activity physics. Correlation analysis indicated that there was no significant correlation between physical activity time per day and waist circumference (r = 0.13, p = 0.30). Conclusion: does not hear a correlation between physical activity time and waist circumference among adolescents.
