The objective of the present study is to analyze the effect of regional development politics adopted by the brazilian government starting in 1970, the industrial dynamic of the northern region of the country and its states and specifically its transformation industry. To fulfill this task historical data was procured and information regarding the economy of the northern part of the country was collected as to assess the consequences of such politics in the economical development. During the period in question, the regions industrial activity presented a small degree of development, highlighting only the structural alteration promoted by the consolidation of the free zone of the city of Manaus. Also, a large production concentration in the states of Amazonas and Para were observed. Initially, the observed industries were directly linked with the agricultural base or took advantage of the use of local material. As the years went by the initial configuration presented change only in Manaus. Some sectors revealed an increase of participation in the states transformation industries, especially in the assembly of electronic equipment and the communication industry. |
