Resumo:
Reading, since its inception, has been essential for human development, being a necessity that should be addressed from the beginning of an individual's educational life. However, many students have come to university without adequate reading and writing skills, making learning in higher education difficult. Thus, it is important that actions are taken to collaborate so that academics seek to develop greater contact with reading and, thus, use it for their personal and professional development, leaving the decoder level to become a proficient reader. The library has been a companion in the history of reading by storing its support, and today it has assumed an important role in the process of encouraging reading. Assuming that several students arrive at the university with reading difficulties, not being proficient readers, this work is carried out aiming to analyze the relevance of the reading incentive actions carried out in the university library Teacher Severino Francisco, from UFT Araguaína Campus. The research has a descriptive character with a qualitative approach. Through bibliographic research, authors such as Schwarcz (2002), Battles (2003), Baratin and Jacob (2008) were used to present a brief historical background of how library and reading have perpetuated over time and how they remain primordial for human development. One of the highlights is Umberto Eco's (2003) The Name of the Rose, which illustrates well, through fiction, the importance of reading and the library in history. Authors such as Cândido (2017) and Perrone-Moisés (2016) were used to show the importance of literature in the individual's life; in a special way, from literary readings that contribute to the improvement of the student's critical and human skills, influencing their academic formation. Some Public Reading Policies and how they treat libraries are also analyzed. Using institutional reports, library loan records and questionnaires, we analyzed the relationship of students with literary books and the library, allowing to know some characteristics of students who attend libraries and how they have used literary books in their academic career. . Finally, some reading incentive actions presented by the professor Severino Francisco library at UFT were presented. At the end of this research, it is concluded that literary reading is very important for the critical and human formation of the human being, taking him, from the decoder level, to a proficient reader, being important his encouragement, also, in the university. In this sense, the library plays an important role in this process and can contribute to the institution and the various courses to bring literary reading actions to the entire academic community and the general community.
