Resumo:
The objective of this work was to obtain, through the tree pruning pyrolysis process, coal to be used in the removal of pollutants present in gray waters. Biomass was characterized by immediate and instrumental analysis (elemental analysis, lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose, scanning electron microscopy - SEM, infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis). The laboratory scale pyrolytic plant consists of a fixed bed reclining furnace heated stainless steel reactor with nitrogen being used as carrier gas. In the pyrolysis tests of the material the following process variables were studied: reaction temperature (360 to 640 ºC) and heating rate (23 to 37 ºC / min). The coal obtained during the process was characterized by classical and instrumental analytical techniques, being used in a gray water filtration column and dye adsorption test. In this investigation it was proposed the treatment of gray water by the following series steps: (a) coagulation/ flocculation, (b) decantation, (c) sand filtration and (d) coal filtration column was 60.10% obtained at 360 ºc and heating rate of 30 ºC/min.The coal from this research proved to be efficient for the removal of methylene blue in liquid flows equal to 2 and 5 ml / min. The gray water polishing using the coal obtained from the tree pruning pyrolysis process was efficient in the removal of the studied analytical parameters. for turbidity, cod, total solids and residual chlorine parameters, the removal values were 99, 98, 71 and 100 %, respectively. The filter column containing the tree pruning charcoal was responsible for the final step of removing organ matter with a characteristic odor of gray water.
