Resumo:
Today's society is marked by major social and economic transformations that from the late twentieth century, has profoundly altering the global productive logic. Among these transformations, the transnational processes of productive restructuring, internationalization and globalization of the economy has resulted in significant developments in the regulatory process, resulting in production of new conditions that directly affect social behavior, both individually and collectively, affecting the development, interaction with medium and maintaining identity. Given this broad scenario of transformation, it is observed that communities begin to tackle new areas of unpredictability that promote important changes in everyday life and social organization. However, draws attention to capacity that some have the positive coping and overcoming adversity. This capability has been seized in academia through resilience idea. Thus, the aim of this study was to research in the Community Quilombo Morro de São João - Santa Rosa do Tocantins / TO and verify that this is a resilient community and what factors promote this condition. It is a qualitative research, carried out through a case study. Various strategies and data collection techniques were used such as participant observation, unstructured interviews, desk research, questionnaire and life story. The ethnographic research was conducted during the four visits to the field and was through participation in routine, the ceremonies, the celebrations that took place during their stay in the community at the same time observations and interviews with residents were held. The theoretical framework adhered to the approach of resilience concepts, neocomunidade, recognition, and culture as a resource. It is concluded that St John's Hill community is resilient, as it showed signs of overcoming the adversities, which can be verified in a community basis, although it was proven through the scale of results used that on an individual level there is a consistent resilience. What can be concluded is that although the Quest_Resiliência is a tool used to map the behavior of individuals and groups (teams), not reached a satisfactory outcome for the mapping of beliefs in a community basis, and then insufficient to measure community resilience. This suggests the need to translate and validate a mapping scale communities. It was shown that the recognition of cultural identity is a factor of promotion of overcoming adversity.
