This paper studied aspects of the Quilombola Mumbuca community, located in Jalapão-TO,
with the aim of addressing their relationship with the media and their strategies for survival,
linked to development. There was emphasis on the performance of Dotora, community
leadership that here was called neoleadership, when entering and in tune with the context of
neocommunity, which explains the contemporary condition of quilombo remnants in Brazil.
The research is qualitative, with field trips being made, two of them with immersion in the
community, using ethnographic techniques, such as participant observation, field journal and
in-depth interviews, with Dotora as the main interlocutor, in addition to three women, selected
in the search. For this work, in addition to bibliographic research, I selected nationally
broadcast television programs in which Dotora appears, and the analyzes are made based on
her point of view and that of the other interviewees. The results point to the idea that the
Mumbuca community interacts with the media, in order to partially take ownership of its
agendas, in an attempt to also schedule topics of interest to them. In this sense, Mumbuca
tends to silence aspects of his reality and highlight others, creating a harmony between his
objectives and, possibly, those of the media. Such attitudes show relevance to the community
in order to make it attractive as a tourist destination linked to traditions, the main economic
activity at the moment. |
