A study was carried out to test the possible ways of using açaí stone as a source of thermal
energy in the structural ceramics industry of pottery, for the manufacture of bricks, in the city
of Imperatriz / MA. The analyzes and chemical characterization carried out in laboratories
based on the samples of dry mass of the cores found as solid residue of the process of pulping
of the juice extraction in the free fairs of the city, showed that its calorific value when
compared to the wood is high 27.696MJ / kg, and which has 12.19% of fixed carbon, 71.39%
of volatiles and 1.18% of ash. This information qualifies the acai berry as a good source of
biomass to be used in combustion to replace wood that has a calorific value of approximately
18.42MJ / kg. The use of açaí kernels in pottery kilns makes it possible to soften the
environmental problem of their disposal, which until then had no useful destination, only in
this study were used in the furnaces about 2,250 kg of kernels equivalent to 1.44 m3, for this
process about 3m3 of wood was left to be burnt. The reuse of the residues in the burning
process of the bricks as the ashes mixed to the clay, generated a energy efficiency with time
gain, a more ecological, manufacture less aggressive to the environment reducing the amount
to be discarded in open sky or near the springs giving a destination to these lumps and
promoting the environmental efficiency of this sector. |
