Resumo:
This research focuses on the Santa Cecília Philharmonic Band of the Arraias Military Police. The general objective is to unveil the possible contributions of the Band to the culture of the Municipality. For such a study was made about the historical path and challenges found in its context, specifically musical. Thus, it was presented the origin of the first Military Philharmonic Bands in Brazil since the presence of D. João VI and especially of the Santa Cecília Band, through its historical course, to which it was formed, and the reasons that led it. to receive this name, choice of musical style and the selective process of entry for participation in the band of the Military Police. A brief overview about the origins of the band members and the formation of the bands in the military context in the state of Tocantins is presented. The specific objectives are: to research the historical and musical path of the Santa Cecília Philharmonic Band of the Arraias Military Police, to understand how their formation and installation in the city of Arraias was reconciled, to know the process of musical formation of a philharmonic band in the context of a military corporation differentiating a Civil Music Band from the Military, demonstrate the role of the Santa Cecília Band in the Municipality of Arraias, considering the cultural aspects of the locality. This research is bibliographic and used some theorists such as: Silva (2009), Tinhorão (1997) TRIVIÑOS (1987) and Costa (2010). This research has a qualitative character, made by means of data collection and interview using the oral history applied to residents and people linked to the history of the referred band, besides the members of the Military Band.
