For this purpose, a research was carried out in two stages. The first stage, of a bibliographic nature, served as theoretical support for the elaboration of the subsequent phases. The second stage, consisted of a field research, which used as techniques: the participant observation, of classes of a children's class; the semi-structured interview, carried out with the three (03) teachers of the academy and with six (06) parents / guardians for the children participating in the research; and the production of drawings by nine (09) children observed in class, from 06 (six) to 12 (twelve) years. The analysis of the field records took place in a qualitative way, privileging the crossing between the subjects' points of view and the reading concerning the theme. The interpretations made it possible to understand Jiu-jitsu beyond a competitive sport, forging an educational practice with a significant influene on the various dimensions of the articipants' social life. The theoretical contribution of bibliographic research was supported by authors such as Tubino, 2002; Castro, 2018; Rufino and Darido, 2015; Brazil, 1997. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o Jiu-jitsu, enquanto arte marcial e prática educativa não formal, no processo de formação humana dos praticantes de uma academia da referida luta, da cidade de Porto Franco – MA;;. Para tanto, foi realizado uma pesquisa em duas etapas. A primeira etapa, de cunho bibliográfico, serviu de subsídio teórico para a elaboração das fases subsequentes. A segunda etapa consistiu em uma pesquisa de campo, que utilizou como técnicas: a observação participante, de aulas de uma turma infantil; a entrevista semiestruturada, realizada com os três (03) professores da academia e com seis (06) pais/responsáveis pelas crianças participantes da pesquisa; e a produção de desenhos, por nove (09) crianças observadas nas aulas, de 06 (seis) a 12 (doze) anos. A análise dos registros de campo se deu de forma qualitativa, privilegiando o cruzamento entre os pontos de vista dos sujeitos e a leitura concernente à temática. As interpretações realizadas permitiram a compreensão do Jiu-jitsu para além de um esporte competitivo, forjando-se uma prática educativa com representativa influência nas várias dimensões da vida social dos participantes.
