The aggregate offer of maize in Brazil between 1974 and 2000 is analyzed
using the theoretical model of the Offer Theory. The variables employed were the maize acreage
planted and the maize and soy lagged prices. Results showed that when the maize lagged price
was higher, the producers increased the maize acreage planted, and vice versa, but when the soy
lagged price was higher, the maize acreage planted was reduced. Also, producers responded
better to prices than to the maize acreage planted in the previous year. |
