The study “Understanding Youth and Adult Education in Campos Lindos (TO) through
social indicators and the narratives of alumni and education professionals” emphasizes a
discussion with faces to understand the difficulties that lead working students who
attend public schools, to take the decision to abandon Youth and Adult Education (EJA)
to develop activities focused on the agribusiness of Campos Lindos (TO). The research
has a quantitative and qualitative approach, with documentary analysis, semi-structured
interviews as an instrument of data generation and the use of thematic cartography,
having as a social category of analysis the former students of EJA, the education
professionals who work / have worked at EJA and a resident of Campos Lindos. The
text brings an approach on the contextual reality of Campos Lindos focused on the
perspectives of agribusiness, as well as the discussion of the existing problems in the
educational scenario, showing that education does not follow the economic
development policies built for the municipality. In view of the discussion, the study
shows that the methods used by the State for the way of conducting and administering
education in Campos Lindos have favored the continuity of low social indicators, such
as the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Development Index of Education
(IDEB). The dissertation highlights a discussion on the HDI of Campos Lindos with the
perspective of understanding the results of the variables that make up the indicator, thus
making a comparison of the results with border municipalities and the main
municipalities of Tocantins showing that they are the criteria aimed at education,
specifically to the public who are of age to attend EJA, who are having negative results
in the studied territory, thus proving that the problem is not the indicators, but the way
of conducting education in Campos Lindos. At this juncture, the study elucidates that
young people and adults who abandon EJA can be seen with the perspective of
cooperating to improve these indicators, so that EJA's public policies are effectively
experienced by education and schools that offer the modality in question. Campos
