First, the importance of electric energy for the functioning of the economy is studied, in addition to information on the obligations, penalties and attributions under the responsibility of the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE). For this, the data from the energy bill for the period from September 2018 to August 2019 is used, in order to obtain results from the normal operation of the campus. The data obtained for the comparative study were: demand, consumption, rates and prices negotiated in the Free Energy Market. The results obtained through the comparative study, with the estimation of the prices charged in the two environments, present a possibility of savings that can be achieved by performing a migration. O trabalho apresenta uma proposta alternativa à contratação e compra de energia elétrica pela Universidade Federal do Tocantins (UFT) câmpus de Palmas, por meio de comparações e análise da instituição nos dois ambientes desse mercado: Ambiente de Contratação Livre (ACL) e Ambiente de Contratação Regulada (ACR). Primeiramente, é estudada a importância da energia elétrica para o funcionamento da economia, além das informações das obrigações, penalidades e atribuições sob a responsabilidade da Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica (CCEE). Para isso são utilizados os dados da conta de energia do período de setembro de 2018 a agosto de 2019, a fim de ter-se resultados a partir do funcionamento normal do campus. Os dados obtidos para realização do estudo comparativo foram: demanda, consumo, taxas e preços negociados no Mercado Livre de Energia.
