This study aimed to carry out a review of literature on human accidents involving fish in
order to elucidate possible differences in the severity of accidents, their clinical and
employee treatment. Therefore, we will compare the species selected for this study in
relation to the inoculant device poison, the clinical picture presented by the victims,
employees treatments and chemical and biological properties of the venom. For
preparation of this review was carried out literature in CAPES database SciVerse Hub,
SciVerse Science Direct, SciVerse Scopus, Scirus and Pubmed. key words were used
in both Portuguese and English: accidents, fish, poisoning and ictismo with which were
found 346 publications, from 1961 to 2016, of which 96 were used as references for
inclusion in the review. The results show that the accidents from aquatic animals are
an important health problem, particularly in the fishing worker, causing, in some cases,
temporary incapacity for work.
