Resumo:
This research aims to analyze the process of historical constitution of the Diocese of Porto Nacional between the years 1936 to 1966. The Catholicism of the former northern region of Goiás gained prominence with the arrival of Dominicans from France in 1886. Previously , we had a popular religiosity restricted to the leadership of a few priests and the occasional presence of high clergy authorities. Starting from the main factors that enabled the creation and implantation of the Diocese in the then north of Goiás, we began our analysis with readings on the relations between the State and the Catholic Church, from the proclamation of the Republic in 1889. Directing our object, we analyze the motivations of the Catholic Church institution that justified the creation of the Diocese of Porto Nacional, presenting the main actions of its first bishop, Dom Domingos Carrerot (1921-1933) and the biography of his predecessor Dom Alano Maria du Noday (1936-1976), privileging his perspectives for his episcopal government, which will be one of the protagonists within the scope of our research. Among the discussions and analyses, we highlight the narratives of the pastoral and institutional actions and the strategies undertaken by the Diocese of Porto Nacional for the north of Goiás. Through the analysis of various historical sources, mainly those available in the archives of the Diocesan Curia of Porto Nacional - TO, we seek, thus, to historicize the processes that precede the formation of ecclesiastical circumscriptions of Catholicism in the region that currently comprises the State of Tocantins.
