In the field of the Earth's surface, there are productions and studies based on the differences between environments. With this, the different landscapes of the Earth gain ground in the study with proposals and theories for plant formations, relief, climate influences and changes in natural spaces. Focusing on natural landscapes, this research is based on the bibliographic analysis of the reports of chroniclers and naturalist travelers who were in the north of Goiás, the current state of Tocantins, in the 19th century. The narratives of Johann Emanuel Pohl (1782-1834), Raimundo José da Cunha Matos (1776-1839), George Gardner (1810-1849), Francis de Castelnau (1810-1880) and James William Wells (1847-1902) were selected as they cover different theoretical backgrounds and travel purposes. The objective was to seek the landscape conceptions in the reports in line with the moment of geographic science, in addition to the possible philosophical influences on the modes of description of nature by travelers. Methodological procedures were initiated through knowledge of the work and familiarization with the material. Subsequently, the identification of fragments of interest, organization of the fragments from where and how and analysis and discussion of the data obtained were carried out. The results indicate a plural view of the landscape marked by the cultural and scientific background of the traveler who establishes comparisons and differences with his place of origin. The physical-natural arrangements of the landscape are highlighted, with emphasis on the assessment of water resources, vegetation and climatic conditions of Tocantins, finally, evaluation of the environmental issue, embryonic in the 19th century, with reflections from the southeast of Tocantins. As explorações, as delimitações e a descrição são elementos formadores de um campo do saber: os estudos ambientais e, em especial, a Geografia, que surge em uma época cartesiana, são influenciados por conceitos dos exploradores e dos naturalistas. Sobre o campo da superfície da Terra, há produções e estudos com base nas diferenciações entre os ambientes. Com isso, as distintas paisagens da Terra ganham fundamento no estudo com propostas e teorias para formações de vegetações, relevo, influências do clima e alterações dos espaços naturais. Com foco nas paisagens naturais, esta pesquisa tem como base a análise bibliográfica dos relatos de cronistas e viajantes naturalistas que estiveram no norte de Goiás, atual estado do Tocantins, no século XIX. Foram selecionadas as narrativas de Johann Emanuel Pohl (1782-1834), Raimundo José da Cunha Matos (1776-1839), George Gardner (1810-1849), Francis de Castelnau (1810- 1880) e James William Wells (1847-1902) por abarcarem diferentes formações teóricas e propósitos de viagens. Como objetivo, buscaram-se as concepções de paisagem nos relatos em consonância com o momento da ciência geográfica, além das possíveis influências filosóficas nos modos de descrição da natureza por parte dos viajantes. Iniciaram-se os procedimentos metodológicos pelo conhecimento da obra e pela familiarização com o material. Na sequência, realizaram-se identificação de fragmentos de interesse, organização dos fragmentos a partir de onde e como e análise e discussão dos dados obtidos. Os resultados indicam uma visão plural da paisagem marcada pela formação cultural e científica do viajante que estabelece comparações e diferenças com o seu local de origem.
