In this perspective, we seek to analyze the ideas that deal with accessibility and inclusion related to people with deficiency. We present laws and discussions about inclusion to, later, think about how these ideas appear in the book I will be a mermaid?. The book deals with the story of a girl who lives torn between the real and the imaginary world and who faces problems at school because she has a physical disability. We believe that these problems occur because the world around Inaê is not inclusive; on the contrary, it is full of spaces and exclusionary practices. The book's history, therefore, provides a reflection on the existence of accessibility, inclusion and exclusion. The methodology we used was bibliographical, moving through laws, books, online periodicals, magazines and newspapers to achieve a theoretical basis for discussion. We found that, through children's literature, it is possible to address fundamental issues for the formation of critical readers of the text and society. The results show that our reflection has elements that make us rethink both educational and social practices in relation to people with disabilities, because there is still prejudice and a lack of public policies to support this group. The implemented policies, as much as they ensure the rights of the disabled, still need awareness, an element that makes and remakes the subject in the world. Roles such as those of school and community need to be rethought in society. O objetivo principal do trabalho foi realizar uma investigação sobre a acessibilidade e inclusão na literatura infantojuvenil através da análise do livro Serei Sereia?, de Kely de Castro. Nessa perspectiva, buscamos analisar as ideias que tratam da acessibilidade e da inclusão relacionadas às pessoas com deficiência. Apresentamos leis e discussões sobre inclusão para, posteriormente, pensar em como essas ideias aparecem no livro Serei Sereia?. O livro aborda a história de uma menina que vive dividida entre o mundo real e o imaginário e que enfrenta problemas na escola por apresentar deficiência física. Acreditamos que esses problemas se dão porque o mundo ao redor de Inaê não é inclusivo; pelo contrário é cheio de espaços e práticas de exclusão. A história do livro, portanto, proporciona reflexão sobre a existência de acessibilidade, inclusão e exclusão. A metodologia que utilizamos foi bibliográfica, transitando por leis, livros, periódicos onlines, revistas e jornais para conseguirmos uma base de discussão teórica. Constatamos que, por meio da literatura infantojuvenil, é possível tratar de assuntos fundamentais para a formação de leitores críticos do texto e da sociedade. Os resultados apontam que nossa reflexão apresenta elementos que fazem repensar sobre as práticas tanto educativa quanto social em relação as pessoas com deficiência, porque ainda há preconceito e falta de políticas públicas de apoio a esse grupo. As políticas implantadas, por mais que assegurem o direito dos deficientes, ainda necessitam que haja conscientização, elemento esse que faz e refaz o sujeito no mundo.
