Resumo:
The globalization of the economy and technological development impose constant transformations in societies, in this sense, the school could not be apart from these changes, since it is expected to form a citizen with critical awareness and creativity, in addition to developing skills and abilities that allow him to live and participate actively in the society in which he is inserted. In this way, it is believed that the new information and communication technologies, especially informatics applied to teaching, may transform the way teachers teach their students, serving as an auxiliary resource in the teaching process, and, consequently, help improve education, as long as it is applied correctly and allows interaction between teachers and students. The guiding question of the work, therefore, is to verify if computers are really being used to assist in the teaching process in our public schools, in this case, in the Manoel Messias State School in the municipality of Miracema do Tocantins. To achieve the objective, the following methodological procedures were used: bibliographic and field research through interviews. Such research led to the conclusion that several factors such as: resistance on the part of the school and teachers in relation to the computer; lack of trained professionals; lack of maintenance and updating of machines and the insufficiency of public policies and their applications in this area, make educational informatics a utopia, far from being implemented in our schools.
