This work aims to approach guidelines related to sexist and patriarchal behavior within the
novel Janela da Liberdade, highlighting the points in which the characters are submitted to male
orders and power. The reflections dealt with here place the work with the intention of
understanding how women lived in society, marked by the absence of freedom and free will.
The research proposes to expose, through a literary work, social problems experienced by
women in previous centuries and in current times. It also shows how the image of women was
built over time and in relation to the male figure outside and inside novels and literary works.
The theories used here are contributing to reaffirm the spaces that women had not yet occupied
and highlight the advances after the struggles for equal conditions, we use contributions such
as (FORESTA, 1990), (RIBEIRO, 2020) and (SAFFIOTI, 1997). The book is used to illustrate
the disadvantageous scenario in which the woman was, including within the novel.
