Analyzing the context of 16 years since the appearance of the disease, until then unheard in the world, this research aims to shed light on the discussions about what caused the mysterious disease, its social implications and how the fact still causes strangeness and remains in the imagination and memory of the population affected by the disease. Although the theme has been silenced, the present study seeks to capture the memory of those involved in order to understand the reason for the forgetfulness. Starting from a multi- methodological approach due to the complexity of the themes observed (Environmental Journalism, Documentary Cinema and Memory), each of the three chapters is guided by a social research method, being in Chapter 2 - Environmental Journalism, the Content Analysis, Chapter 3 the In-Depth Interview and Chapter 4 the Phenomenological Method, through Giorgi's Method of identifying the Meaning Units through the transcripts of interviews used in the documentary "The Mystery of the Eyeball". In three distinct moments and of analysis, this work remains with the gaze fixed on the Araguaia River, responsible for conducting the history of that community, but which probably could be the causative factor of the eye disease Este trabalho visa rememorar o surgimento da doença ocular de etiologia desconhecida que acometeu os moradores de Araguatins-TO, entre os anos de 2005 e 2006, tendo em vista os impactos ambientais, sociais e econômicos para o município. Analisando o contexto de 16 anos desde o surgimento da doença até então inédita no mundo, esta pesquisa tem como objetivo dar luz às discussões sobre o que causou a doença misteriosa, suas implicações sociais e como o fato ainda causa estranhamento e permanece no imaginário e na memória da população atingida pela doença. Embora o tema tenha sido silenciado, o presente estudo busca captar a memória dos envolvidos para que assim se entenda o motivo do esquecimento. Partindo de uma abordagem multimetodológica devido à complexidade dos temas observados (Jornalismo Ambiental, Cinema Documental e Memória), cada um dos três capítulos é norteado por um método de pesquisa social, sendo no capítulo 2 ± Jornalismo Ambiental, a Análise de Conteúdo, o capítulo 3 a Entrevista em Profundidade e o Capítulo 4 o Método Fenomenológico, por meio do Método de Giorgi de identificação de Unidades de Sentido por meio das transcrições de entrevistas utilizadas no documentário “O mistério do Globo Ocular”.
