The present work deals with micro actions of participants of the Institutional Program of
Initiation Scholarships for Teaching, English area, at the Federal University of North
Tocantins, city of Araguaína. It was noticed developments of a social phenomenon shared
among students of a public school on the outskirts of the city, which is an explicit lack of
interest in the English language school subject, called in this article as a Culture of
Disinterest. Attributing a critical teaching of an educational nature and applying English as a
Lingua Franca in the classroom, in awareness of the amplitude of the multiple aspects and
elements behind the culture of disinterest, we sought to try to reverse or reduce the issue of
students' disinterest in relation to the English language discipline. Analyzing program
materials, such as reports and school activities, it was concluded that the critical teaching
proposal made significant contributions, increasing learning and promoting greater student
engagement in attention to the English language. |
