This work aimed to evaluate the use of animals in the tourist activity and its consequences, exemplifying activities that use the interaction with animals, both in Tocantins, in Brazil, and in the world. The methodological research used was the literature review with qualitative information approach, to deepen the universe of the theme. The results show that Animal Tourism, if poorly structured, has a great negative impact on the welfare of these beings. Most people are unaware that most animals used as attractions are subject to pain, stress, fear, anxiety, and boredom. Many live long years of exploration. Thus, it is concluded that it is necessary to think of a more responsible tourism model that guarantees health and promotes the environmental, behavioral and nutritional needs of the animals. Through the involvement and awareness of both the trade and the tourists, it is possible to avoid abuses committed to the animal. Just so, the experience will truly be unforgettable and exciting. A busca por atividades de lazer que incluam contato direto com os animais vem ganhando destaque cada vez maior no setor de Turismo. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a utilização de animais na atividade turística e suas consequências, exemplificando atividades que se utilizam da interação com animais, tanto no Tocantins, como no Brasil, e no mundo. A pesquisa metodológica utilizada foi a revisão de literatura com abordagem qualitativa das informações, para o aprofundamento no universo do tema. Os resultados mostram que o Turismo Animal, se mal estruturado, tem grande impacto negativo sobre o bem-estar desses seres. A maioria das pessoas desconhece que grande parte dos animais usados como atrativos estão sujeitos à dor, estresse, medo, ansiedade e tédio. Muitos vivem longos anos de exploração. Assim, conclui-se que é necessário pensar um modelo de turismo mais responsável, que garanta a saúde e promova as necessidades ambientais, comportamentais e nutritivas dos animais. Através do envolvimento e conscientização, tanto do trade, quanto dos turistas, é possível evitar os abusos cometidos ao animal.
