The aim of this study was to investigate reading practices of students entering the Social
Sciences course of the Federal University of Northern Tocantins - UFNT/Tocantinópolis, in
order to contribute to the characterization of this group. The study was a theoretical-
methodological basis in the sociocultural perspective of literacy and concepts of the field of
sociology. This research has a qualitative character, of the case study type. The data were
generated from the research questionnaire sent to students of the course tickets between 2020
and 2022. The results show that students cultivate a heterogeneous relationship with reading
practices. Furthermore, in the academic sphere, these subjects report difficulties that are related
to the reading of genres of complex/academic discourse and mastery of the languages and codes
of this medium, much because these genres represent new ways of reading and interacting with
texts written in a new context. |
