The exact cause is unknown but it occurs with more frequency in large dogs older than 7 years. The diagnosis of this affection depends on the histopathologic exam. However, most causes in which the neoplastic mass locates in the spinal cord, the definitive diagnosis only occurs after the surgical procedure whereupon has the primal goal to decompress the spinal cord. The early presumptive diagnosis is very important to have the best prognostic for the patient. This essay presents a clinical case of neoplasia located in region C2-C3 in a dog, female, mongrel, 7 years old, presenting ambulatory ataxia, with proprioceptive deficit in four members and severe neck pain. Through computerized tomography exam, it was identified neoplastic tissue measuring 0,71 cm high x 0,72 cm wide, 1,11 cm long. The chosen treatment was decompression with hemilaminectomy technique associated with newly formed tissue exeresis. According to the histopathologic exam, the neoplastic mass was identified as transitional meningioma. After the surgical procedure, the patient had excellent recovery, being indicated to physiatry treatment for better recovery of the damaged caused by this illness. The present work accompanies the supervised internship report, being carried out at the Veterinary Medical Specialties Center, Campo Grande, MS.
