This paper has as its main theme the contribution of the history and culture african descent
and indigenous education, with the overall objective of conducting literature on the proposed
subject. The specific objectives were scaled in the knowledge of african descent culture, its
importance and contribution to Brazil, both in the social, economic or psychological. The
central research problem was outlined by the question: How is taught in public schools in
Araguaína-TO the history teaching focused on african-descendants and indigenous cultures?
The possibility outlined for this analysis is that the people to know the importance of black
society, will consequent reduction prejudiced judgments, less discrimination and elimination
of racism in society. A society free of ethnic and racial discrimination, prejudice and racism
will bring the awareness that all men are equal and should be respected and valued as any
human being, as the Brazilian legal system, guarantees for constitutional principles, equality
between citizens, without distinction of race, creed, culture or religion, in view of the
concepts of human dignity
