The aim of this research was to elaborate and apply a thematic workshop entitled "Polymers and materials of the day to day", with the objective of working concepts related to polymers and their properties. The results indicate that the possibility of the workshop to provide a more articulated teaching with students' daily life, as well as their potentialities from a teacher of Chemistry of Basic Education. A preocupação com proposições metodológicas, que auxiliem os estudantes na apropriação de conceitos relacionados à Química, tem sido alvo de muitos pesquisadores da área do Ensino de Ciências. Nesse contexto, as oficinas temáticas surgem dessas proposições. Nesta pesquisa buscou-se elaborar e aplicar uma oficina temática intitulada “Os polímeros e os materiais do dia a dia”, com o objetivo de trabalhar conceitos relacionados aos polímeros e suas propriedades.
