CNPQ::CIENCIAS SOCIAIS APLICADAS This article aims to verify the role of Ruraltins, especially in the Araguaína region, in local development using Sachs (2002) conceptions about Sustainable Development as an analytical category. The questioning guiding the work was: In what way do public institutions, in the case of this work, Ruraltins, act in the promotion of development in the region that covers the city of Araguaína-To? What is the relationship between rural extension and development strategies? To answer such questions begins with a brief history about Rural Extension in Brazil. In the sequence it presents aspects of Ruraltins in the State of Tocantins and in the municipality of Araguaína, its way of accompanying each family in the rural sector, understanding each step in this brief analysis. The methodology used was interviews with representatives of Ruraltins and also consult the official pages of Government entities. In observing Sachs's (2002) conception of development, it can be observed that the institution's performance permeates the eight dimensions described, Environmental, Economic, Social, Cultural, Territorial, Psychological, National Policy and International Politics. Este artigo tem como objetivo verificar o papel da Ruraltins, em especial na regional de Araguaína, no desenvolvimento local utilizando-se como categoria analítica as concepções de Sachs (2002), acerca do Desenvolvimento Sustentável. Os questionamentos norteadores do trabalho foram: De que forma as instituições públicas, no caso deste trabalho, a Ruraltins, atua na promoção do desenvolvimento na região que abrange a cidade de Araguaína-To? Qual a relação existente entre a extensão rural e as estratégias de desenvolvimento? Para responder tais questionamentos inicia-se trazendo um breve histórico sobre a Extensão Rural no Brasil. Na sequência apresenta aspectos da Ruraltins no Estado do Tocantins e no município de Araguaína, sua forma de acompanhar cada família no setor rural, compreendendo cada passo, nessa breve análise. A metodologia utilizada foi entrevistas com representantes da Ruraltins e também consulta as páginas oficiais de entidades Governamentais.
