The fellowship was carried out at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the College of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences of São Paulo State University (UNESP), campus of Jaboticabal, in two distinct areas. The first part was done in Small Animal Medicine, between April 22nd and June 4th; the second part was performed in the field of Small Animal Surgery, between June 5th and August 1st, 2014. Both parts totaled 528 hours altogether. A total of 97 cases were seen in the small animal medicine, whereas 133 cases were followed up in the small animal surgery section. Fellows were allowed to follow the residents in clinical care, perform anamnesis, physical examination, assist in collecting biological samples for laboratory testing, preparation of prescriptions, monitor and/or assist surgical procedures and give medications when previously requested by residents.
