The aim of these studies was to evaluate the seminal parameters and the electrophoretic profile of the seminal plasma of males tambaqui, induced with pituitary carp extract (0.5 mg / kg) and correlate with possible seminal quality markers. The improvement of already existing biotechniques of reproduction for tambaqui, as well as the development of methodologies with these studies, will be able to improve the programs of genetic improvement and reproductive efficiency of the commercial plants. In addition, they will serve to assist programs of conservation and recovery of endangered species. Seminal collections took place at Fazenda São Paulo, aquaculture located in the county of Brejinho de Nazaré, Tocantins. This study was approved by the animal use ethics committee of the Federal University of Tocantins (protocol number 23101.001692 / 2015-65). Among the evaluated parameters, the mean seminal volume was 3.31 mL / 4.18 ± 0.46 kg of body weight and prevalence of milky appearance (62.5%). The mean motility was 78.75% and the mean vigor on the 3.5 scale. The mean spermatic concentration was 12.68 x 109 spermatozoa / mL, with minor defects were on average 5.50% and major defects in 2.56% of spermatozoa, with an average of 84.50% spermatozoa being intact through the eosin-nigrosine test. The sperm viability test was carried out by the application of a new methodology, without the need to heat the dye solution and the semen at 37 ° C and without the preheating of the microscopic slides. With the electrophoretic profile of the seminal plasma, a total of 26 protein bands with molecular weights ranging from 9.87 to 221.93 kDa were detected, with a predominance of proteins with low molecular weights. The presence of low molecular weight proteins is an indication of seminal quality and fertility, and serves as a seminal quality parameter for use in cryopreservation in germplasm banks of this species.
