Resumo:
This work aims to construct a history-geographical analysis of the process of urbanization in the municipality of Araguaína when, by actions of the State process planner, it was given a new impetus to it’s space, organizing it according to the conditions imposed by the laws of capitalist accumulation. Thus, new branches emerged between the centers connecting producing areas to consuming markets and vice versa, taking as an example the routes, like the case of the Belém- Brasília Highway that has linked the then Northern Region of the country to the consuming centers of the Mid-South. Araguaína developed from the migration of an enormous population of the country, with these deprived of their livelihood and needing to occupy the outlying areas of the center. Moreover, since the 60’s, Araguaína has been showing continuous and exacerbated growth that persists until today. The lack of proper planning by the government and by the municipality gave to the site a certain disorganization and hence refusing to offer decent living conditions for thousands of city dwellers who have been residing there. This lack of planning has caused a number of problems in its urban area, since the chaotic lack of parking lots for cars to the flooding during the rainy season. In recent years, this core showed significant stimulation in the areas of health, education, services, becoming a polarizing center of these functions and also acquiring status as a big producer and exporter of cow meat. This activity managed to bring money to the city of the local elite, who have invested it in other activities in the following decades. Currently, the production of urban space municipality has been taken by various agents: real estate, the state, owners of plots and retail business. Thus, the implementation of these settlements occurs through public and private capital and the occurrence of spontaneous occupations by those who have not enough capital to buy a place for construction of housing or for those who do not have the profile to be included in housing programs of the federal government. Then by proposing development of two questionnaires by baring two distinct realities: a neighborhood of spontaneous occupation and another designed by the federal design “My House, My Life”, where we concluded that although both have different occupations, they share some similarities between them as the interests and needs
