Resumo:
Orthorexia nervosa is the term that describes a pathological behavior characterized by obsession with healthy foods, and although it is not recognized as an eating disorder, as it is not included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders V (DSM-V), it has been widely discussed in recent years due to the interference it causes in the social and professional life of individuals. In the present study, a bibliographic review of twenty-two articles published between the years 2015 and 2020 was carried out, in order to conceptualize and classify orthorexia, identifying its main characteristics and implications for health. Of complex and multifactorial etiology, orthorexia nervosa has been reaching more and more individuals, especially those who are intensely interested in their health and body. People with orthorexia nervosa may have nutritional deficiencies, social isolation, anxiety, and may develop depression, malnutrition, hypotension, osteoporosis and other eating disorders and / or mental disorders.
