Resumo:
Even with so many changes in society, over the years, inequality and prejudice still appear hidden in disguise When we talk about the black population in Brazil, we find very high illiteracy rates, for black or brown people while that of white people is regular. The black is the disadvantaged race in society, with their rights violated. Taxed as people who do not deserve to go to Universities or hold important positions, but instead serve as domestic servants, street sweepers and many other lower professions. Thus, this work seeks to analyze the short story “The flying carpet” by the author Cristiane Sobral, who tells us the story of Barbara, a black character, daughter of a maid and a porter, asked permission in her company to take the post- graduation, but what he does not expect wasthat his boss was black, and on top of that he went through the whitening process. Faced with the boss's prejudiced actions, she resigns, not allowing herself to deny her origins orher racial identity.
