The general objective of this article is to analyze whether and how Law 10.639 of 2003 is applied in public schools in the municipality of Brejinho de Nazaré, considering that they have enrolled students from certified quilombola communities in the municipality, justifying the importance of this law in teaching. in the municipality where the majority of its population is black. As methodological strategies, a bibliographic review and a script of interviews with teachers responsible for the subjects of geography, history and arts, and pedagogical coordinators, were defined. The most evident result in schools is the lack of knowledge of the aforementioned law and the lack of training for teachers on the issue pointed out by the law. A Lei 10.639/2003 traz a obrigatoriedade do ensino da história e da cultura afro- brasileira e africana desde a Educação Infantil até o Ensino Médio e se propõe a contribuir para a desconstrução do racismo que existe e é propagado pela escola através de um currículo que institucionaliza o preconceito racial sobre a população negra. O objetivo geral deste artigo é analisar se e como a Lei 10.639 de 2003 é aplicada nas escolas públicas do município de Brejinho de Nazaré, considerando que elas têm matriculados alunos das comunidades quilombolas certificadas existentes no município, justificando-se pela importância desta lei no ensino no município em que a maioria da sua população é negra. Como estratégias metodológicas definiram-se a revisão bibliográfica e roteiro de entrevistas com professores responsáveis pelas disciplinas de geografia, história e artes, e coordenadores pedagógicos.
