In this monograph, we engage in a comprehensive discussion that addresses topics pertinent to the teaching and learning of mathematics in basic education. Exploring the students' engagement in the construction and use of Manipulable Didactic Material, we offer them the opportunity to discern how the concepts of Trigonometry relate to everyday life. We used a qualitative approach for the development of the investigation that took place within the scope of the Internship III discipline, where the intern applied some assumptions of mathematical learning with the use of manipulative didactic material in a 2nd year high school class, with the objective of demonstrating how the homemade theodolites could facilitate the understanding of trigonometric ratios. Our results are in line with the theoretical predictions of Mathematics Education researchers, who advocate the use of manipulable didactic material so that basic education students have an active role in the teaching and learning process, enhancing their mathematical learning and improving their involvement with the classroom activities. |
