The reflection we are looking for concerns a discussion involving the philosophy of
symbolic forms by Ernst Cassirer (1874-1945) and its manifestations in the andscape and space of representation in Geography and Photography. By proposing this research whose purpose was to identify the transformations of the senses and meanings of São Luís Orione Square in Araguaína (TO), the delimitation of the object of study is given by the photographic records of the Square made between 1970 and 2023. since the construction of the square, it has not only been revitalized but also had its original name changed, as a result of the very context of the formation of the city. We use photographs as a language to communicate constituent elements of the symbolic landscape, related to economic, political and cultural interaction capable of presenting temporal transformations as well as social relations. We analyzed the images based on Erwin Panofsky's iconography and iconology proposed by Peter Burke. Mobilizing authors of Geography in its various tendencies, in a theoretical approach of the category “Landscape” and space of representation, among others, G. Andreotti and D. Cosgrove. |
