The transport sector plays a important role in logistics, being indispensable for other
processes, in addition to having a large participation in the national economy. In Brazil,
transport is mostly carried out by road, which is extensive and far reaching, in addition to
complementing other modes. The road infrastructure is precarious and receives low
investments, negatively affecting the transport activity, raising operating costs and reducing
productivity. This research sought to explore how vehicle routing software can help transport
companies to have a more productive and less costly activity. To achieve the objectives, a
bibliographical review was carried out in articles extracted from the Scientific Electronic
Library Online (SciELO) platform. The analysis of the results showed that companies that use
vehicle routing software achieved improvements in operations, such as a reduction in the size
of the fleet, in the mileage traveled and in the number of stops, reducing the costs of
operations and increasing productivity and quality. of the service.
