This article aimed to discuss the social and sociological processes that involve medicalization
and discontent in contemporary times, based on the texts of Bauman and Freud. This work is a
qualitative narrative bibliographic review research. The analysis of the theme was developed
based on the principle of the constitution of time in relation to society, covering actions that
influenced medicalization in contemporary life. The dialogue initiated by Bauman exposes the
social and sociological aspects in contemporary times, thus forming the theoretical basis of this
material, Subsequently, Freud's notes exposed the individual and civilizing aspects that
contributed to the discontent in our society. It was concluded that medicalization processes are
seen as a way of dealing with this discontent, while there is a subjective acceleration of time in
contemporary times and contemporary subjects are influenced by a neoliberal capitalist logic
that “time is money”. Discontent and suffering quickly gained prominence and medicalization
began to be seen in today's society as the only effective way to eliminate such suffering, being
a strategy that must be rethought, since suffering is something inherent to human life. |
