Resumo:
This work deals with Student Assistance in Higher Education Institutions, highlighting the relevance of Student Assistance policies and recognizing affirmative actions regarding the guarantee and permanence of students in the academic environment, especially highlighting the importance of pedagogical work in the sector responsible for federal public universities and the role of the pedagogue. Therefore, this qualitative research is based on a bibliographical survey, with a literature review, on the analysis of institutional documents that constitute the foundation and instrumentalization of Student Assistance policies and affirmative actions within the scope of the Federal University of the North. do Tocantins, in addition to the use of a questionnaire to the students and an interview with the professional pedagogue of the Tocantinópolis Campus who works in the Student Assistance Sector. As a result, it is shown that Student Assistance has made great progress over the years, shifting its actions from an elite public to a public with socioeconomic vulnerability, and, in this process, the role of the pedagogue becomes fundamental in the composition of a team multidisciplinary approach in the Universities sector. It is understood that the pedagogical performance within Higher Education Institutions, with a view to student access and permanence, is fundamental in a country with deep marks of inequality such as Brazil, but which cannot be considered the only solution for structural issues present in society. nor be held accountable in isolation within a university project. The importance of Student Assistance policies and affirmative actions and follow-up assigned to the Pedagogical Sector is understood, in addition to the assistance coming from Student Assistance, which are fundamental elements for students to complete their training. Nevertheless, it is evident the need for a collective construction and with effective student participation of an institutional policy that corresponds to the demands of the Federal University of Northern Tocantins and that updates the resolutions and effective programs in the institution that is still in the process of emancipation in his first years of life.
