The objective of the present study is to map the production of national scientific articles on
racism in football. Methodologically, we resort to a systematic review of literature, with a
descriptive qualitative design. The searches were conducted in 37 national Physical Education
journals, following the recommendations of Area 21 document. Based on the implemented
filter, our sample consisted of a total of nine articles. From the analyzed studies, it was found
that there is a concentration of documentary sources in the process of data production and
operationalization (seven articles), including official documents or digital and printed sources.
This denotes a concern to investigate what is prescribed in the documents or what is portrayed
by the media regarding the theme of racism, to the detriment of the senses and meanings
attributed by the subjects themselves involved in the fateful episodes of racism. It is
concluded that this study can serve to foster the need for future research on the said theme,
highlighting the importance of anti-racist actions in the context of football and society in
general.
