Resumo:
This Master's dissertation aimed to analyze the privatization process of water resources in Tocantins within the context of neoliberal policies, focusing on water distribution to the population and its impacts on consumers in the municipality of Porto Nacional – TO. The research employed a qualitative and quantitative nature, utilizing bibliographic investigation to explore related ideas. The study delves into the influence of neoliberal policies in the state of Tocantins, scrutinizing the privatization of basic sanitation services and its implications, including the privatization of hydroelectric plants in the region. The research's significance lies in investigating and analyzing inequality in access to clean water, considering the Brazilian development model rooted in the expropriation of natural resources in service of hegemonic capitalism. The dissertation is organized into chapters. Ultimately, the findings contribute to an understanding of privatization through geographical analysis, providing avenues for assessments that deepen the comprehension of these events not solely as the privatization of economic sectors but of the national territory itself, whose regulation, organization, and utilization are oriented to ensure the capital reproduction process.
