Resumo:
This autobiography tells a story that is the result of the experiences lived by a hearing mother with a deaf child, with emphasis on the barriers faced during the process of acquiring Libras in the context of deaf education and family relationships. The linguistic studies carried out during the Literature/Libras degree aroused the interest in narrating such experiences, with the aim of reporting experiences and reflecting on the acquisition of linguistic and cognitive development of the deaf subject. Also the need for hearing family members to follow and value Libras as a first language, encouraging the deaf baby during the process of acquiring Libras. The narrated experiences were contrasted, mainly with the theoretical prerogatives of Goldfeld (2002) and Quadros (1997). The theory raised allowed us to reflect on how this experience occurred in relation to family support and the search for support in the health area that could guarantee the development of deaf people in the initial phase of language acquisition.
